The origins of Schloss Haunsperg remain a mystery. Some historians think a Roman watchtower once existed on the site.

Jumping to the modern age, the opulent music room in the castle enjoys a small claim to fame. The proprietor’s great-grandfather wrote the words to the unofficial Austrian anthem—The Blue Danube. And that Bösendorfer piano you see has been played by such famous conductors as Pierre Boulez and Bruno Walter.

Pamela’s Perspective

Sometimes I prefer to stay just outside a city—especially if I have a car—and take the bus or train into town. It’s less noisy, too. Schloss Haunsperg is only a 15-minute drive south of Salzburg and a proverbial world away. No impersonal inn here, the hospitality you’ll encounter is extremely gracious and completely genuine.

Full of character and personality, Schloss Haunsperg has been in the von Gernerth family for over a 100 years. The family tradition of hospitality extends to guests being treated as family members and not just as paying customers.

Vaulted corridors lead to lovely guest rooms filled with period furniture, artwork, and family heirlooms. Suites are immense.

If you need any help in arranging your day or finding the perfect restaurant (the hotel serves only breakfast), a family member will be there to help you.
