Built as a summer residence and hunting castle in 1712 by Prince Johann Friedrich zu Hohenlohe-Öhringen, generations of the aristocratic family have lived here until the property opened as a hotel in 1953. It’s just one of the many beautiful Hohenlohe Renaissance castles in the region.

Pamela’s Perspective

Guest rooms are gorgeous no matter which building on the property you’re in. Being a fanatic for the authentic, I would go for the rooms in the old hunting castle.

Surrounded by woods and parkland, the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe presents itself as a traditional, refined, German country resort.

The hotel is situated among several buildings. The original hunting castle holds a number of guest rooms. You’ll find the reception, restaurant, and swimming pool in a newer wing, while a gate house (Torhaus) and garden house also hold guest rooms.

Fine art, antiques, and tapestries decorate the public rooms, while antiques Laura Ashley decor, or modern elements highlight the guest rooms. Spacious bathrooms are well-equipped.

The cuisine at the hotel attracts gourmets from the surrounding area. Four restaurants provide either elegant dining with an extensive (try 18 pages) wine list or a less formal room with a country German atmosphere.
