When is the best time to travel to Ireland?
Irish weather can change anytime, anywhere. It’s not impossible to experience wet, windy weather in summer or benign dry days in the middle of winter. However, in no season do you find extremes of temperature, thanks to the moderating influence of the Gulf Stream.
In summer, daylight lasts to 10pm; the sun shines, and the countryside is green. The crowds can be intense, and the price of accommodation is set to the maximum the market will bear.
During winter, it’s dark by 4pm, crowds are much less, and pricey accommodation is surprisingly affordable. Ireland’s castle and palace hotels remain open through the year. Many offer special Christmas packages.
Spring and fall (late September especially) are lovely seasons and an ideal time to visit. Just be prepared for any weather and you’ll be fine.
